Paulo began his journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Philippines back in 2008. Transitioning to Melbourne, Australia, in 2016, he continued to pursue his passion under the guidance of Lachlan Giles of Absolute MMA. In 2019, his journey took him to Sydney, where he received his purple belt from Chris Sales of Legends BJJ (formerly known as Gracie Barra Blacktown). Settling in New Zealand, Paulo, now a Brown belt trains diligently under the mentorship of Professor Matt O’Dea at Coast Academy, and Professor Pedro Fernandes of Tukaha HQ.
Paulo has been competing throughout his BJJ career with notable achievements such as the 2017 Australian National Champion in Blue Belt – Gi and the 2021 NZ National Champion in the Purple Belt category for No Gi.
Off the mats, Paulo balances his dedication to BJJ and his role as a Recruitment Consultant with the joys of fatherhood, cherishing his time with his two boys. Paulo aspires to continue his journey in Jiu-Jitsu, both as a practitioner, and Coach, with the aim of leaving a lasting legacy to inspire others throughout his Jiu Jitsu journey.
